Notch up another accolade for Chanderpaul.

From the Guyana Times:

New Garden Street is now Shiv Chanderpaul Drive

As Guyana continues to celebrate our world- class cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the son of the soil will have a street being named after him.

On Thursday, Wayne wright Orderson, Director of Information Technology at City Hall, made the announcement that starting Saturday, the stretch of road between Church Street and South Road presently called New Garden Street will be renamed as Shiv Chanderpaul’s Drive.

This initiative of Mayor Hamilton Green will be undertaken with the blessings of the council and President Bharrat Jagdeo.

Last year, Almond Street was renamed as Lance Gibbs Street while there is also a Clive Lloyd Drive in Georgetown.

Chanderpaul was named ICC Player of the Year while the West Indies Cricket Players Association named him Cricketer of the Year.

He has also held our coveted title of Sportsman of the Year for the past five consecutive years.

Another special honor for this very special man. If anyone has any doubts just special of a cricketer Shiv is, then that magnificent over yesterday should have erased them all. The usual

Congrats Shiv, all these awards and accolades are truly well deserved. You have done exceptionally well to make an entire nation proud. A nation now tries to show its gratitude.
