Sticky Fingers Staff at NCN
Whilst viewing 'Prime News' tonight, this news piece was mentioned and at first before I heard the details, I thought NCN staff are resorting to steal because they are not being properly compensated for the stupendous amount of propaganda that they are tasked with providing. On the news it was said that two NCN staffers were arrested for stealing jewelry from another staff. Jewelry which is alleged by the owner to cost MILLIONS!!! (use an echoing tone when you say millions). Now this staff claims to have lost a diamond ring and bracelet worth MILLIONS from her handbag...Oh come on people, what the fuck are you doing taking your million dollar jewelry to work for? are you nuts? sometimes you really have to think that some people get what they were looking for.

Presidential Quotes and Cultured Ramblings on the Integrity Commission
I'm going to be quoting the President in this post and making some comments of my own. Let's go.
"when the Members of Parliament, (some) legislators in our land are saying they would not comply with the law that they passed?”
Really Now? The PNC passed that Law? Are you sure Mr. President? Sure the PNC is occasionally in Parliament, but I doubt any of they're members can remember when last they got a bill passed.
"I want to remove any excuse that the opposition leaders have so I may look at probably extending it for a few days"
Can't say I'm surprised, I so expected this from you.
"“I urge the people of Guyana to look at this as a test case, because if the Leader of the Opposition is urging people to break the law when the law is to ensure financial probity in public life…what moral authority does he have to ever speak about corruption?”
Mr. Jagdeo, what moral authority do you think you have to speak of corruption when you preside over one of the most corrupt governments in the western hemisphere? remember ur henchman at the finance ministry with the duty free letters?
"they don’t want the people of this country to know what their income level is and what are their assets, the holding of their assets.”
Are you going to declare (honestly) just how you afforded that mansion in prado ville?
"you should be asking now why is it that some Members of Parliament who have been in Parliament for six-seven years, have not submitted a single declaration when it is required by law and how do they continue to make laws in this country…how do they continue to enjoy the benefits as legislators? This is not a question for me; it’s a question for the people of the country.”
Wow, what a change, suddenly you know that the people of this country have questions? but whenever they want to question you or your government they are termed critics, cynics, unpatriotic among other degrading names. I guess you conveniently decide when the questions of the population should be heard.

DJ Stress -- A real stress indeed!
Do us all a favour Mr Stress -- get a real job and stop holding those so-called parties that just aim at robbing people blindly whilst giving them a false hope of winning a Motorola phone that costs around $1500. How many times are you going to hold that ‘last’ soca/chutney/dancehall party of the year?
No Mr Paul Bonar, downloading those videos from the internet and burning them mass-production style onto blank DVDs that cost around $30 then reselling the end product for $500 and up is not right. You, for sure, did not pay to get those videos and should not be swindling money from people by reselling what was free from the inception (even if it was pirated). If I had my way, I’d get every one of those people that actually bought a DVD to put a good wring on your balls – at least they’d get some satisfaction from being bamboozled by you (ahh, the fruits of redemption could be so ever sweet). By the by, what percentage is Joseph’s Record Bar actually getting from each rip-off sold?
Naughty Pauly – NAUGHTY!
Priya Manickchand, aren't you ashamed? You make me sick!!
Billion Dollar Treasure Found Off Guyana's Coast.
Look what they found...no people, not the freaking bus, the ship people, the ship. Ain’t it cool? I wonder if Guyana is entitled to any of that treasure, if there is a treasure. And what de heck is that bus doing there? (forgive me, I was lazy to crop it out) Guyanese people are the best eh? So creative and ingenious...God Bless US.
Full Story.
The Frequent Flyer is at it again
Now does that surprise anymore? Does anything that Mr. Jagdeo do these days surprise anyone? (well except maybe dance with a woman).
This time, His Excellency will be whisking himself away to Switzerland for a so-called ‘important’ meeting to discuss the global economic crisis. While not denying that there is a financial crisis, this particular forum is probably not the place to have a ‘serious’ discussion about it. The World Economic Forum, that Mr. President is planning on attending, usually consists of some meetings and debates and at the end, some reports will be published which no one seems to bother with. It’s been criticized for accomplishing little of substance since its inception.
It was reported however that China’s Premier, and Russian leader (Everybody knows Putin is the real head) will be in attendance and considering that our President shares some ideological similarities with these two especially; I guess he’ll be anxious to catch up with his communist buddies. Or it could be that Bharrat is just looking to leave this depressing land -- he’s not the only one.

One More Reason To Be Glad Obama Is The New President
Maybe if the announcement that Guyana has uranium was made one month ago, we might have also been accused by George Bush as trying to make a nuclear weapon and before ya know it, we're part of the axis of evil, invaded and occupied...whew can you say 'relieved'?
Priya Manickchand: You're more than a hypocrite
I am trying very hard to think of reasons why you are silent on the atrocities that the President committed on his former wife.
You must know that because of the words you often preached in the past, they are going to come back and haunt you for this. Is this how much you love this job? that you are willing to allow yourself to lose all respect and credibility? or maybe the benefits of this job are too staggering for you to risk. Whatever reason it is, it is now clear that your words are just like those of your colleagues, empty and false and that is sad. You should never, never, never again speak to the Guyanese people about abuse.
Of all the PPP ministers, you might just be the biggest disappointment of them all, and trust me that is no easy feat.
Happy Birthday Mr. Jagdeo
Mr. Jagdeo, I know you don't care for my words very much, actually you don't care about them at all but since this is still partly a democracy, I know that I still have the right to express myself (it should be noted that Oliver Hinckson thought so as well).
Today is your birthday, 45 years you have lived, almost two decades of that have been in service to this land. With about two years left in your Presidency there is still much to be done, there is so much that you can do to return promise to this Country that seems to be losing hope with each passing day.
As you celebrate your birthday today, I hope you will sit and reflect on your life so far and as you look forward to the future, I trust that you'll know the legacy of your Presidency and of yourself as a man are all up to you.
Happy Birthday Mr. President.

Gifts for some of Guyana's favorite people.
I'm being a bit generous here and since I didn't give any of these fine, upstanding citizens anything for the Christmas holidays, I'll give them a few belated gifts. I hope they enjoy them.
Mr. President: For you Mr. Rogaine failure, in lieu of recent events, I give you a one year subscription to Match.com and an official facebook profile.
Mr. Corbin: Like your party, you have no idea where you’re headed so I'm giving you a compass.
Mr. Ramjattan: Gillette Fusion.
Mr. Sharma: Rosetta Stone, hopefully you’ll finally learn English.
Hamilton Green: Dinner for two at Pon Kai restaurant with with the love of your life, Beulah Williams. Misery does love company after all.
Freddie Kissoon: For you Mr. Scholar, I give you the gift of a barber and a PPP type promise that your Ice Cream won’t melt anymore.
Mr. Luncheon: A lawn mower, as Mr. Ramjattan’s razor won’t work on your facial lawn.
Carl Singh: A backbone and some integrity.
Alan Fenty: A year supply of tic tacs and Listerine.
Shonette Moore: For you precious darling, a horse hair so that you can finally remove that hideous wart ... i mean mole on your face.
Petamber Persaud: A visit to Nalini’s, maybe they’ll be able to slap that hairstyle off your head or maybe just slap you.
Charmaine Blackman: A collection of your ‘songs’ so that you can finally listen to yourself and hear how horrible you actually sound.
Michael Younge: A hard, large probing object.

Student stabbed at Saints Stanilaus High School over YuGiOh cards.
It was reported in the news that a student from Saints Stanilaus High School was stabbed in the school compound early one night whilst playing with some collectible cards that are popular with kids (and some adults).
It was said that the boys were playing a game with the cards when a dispute occurred resulting in one boy being stabbed in his back and subsequently needing 5 stitches at a city hospital.
Now here's the thing. This incident occurred close to 7pm, I want to know why those kids were even allowed to be on the premises at that time considering that school is dismissed at 3. They had earlier left the school to attend lessons only to return later to play with these cards. What's the matter, are students not privileged to get homework anymore? and don't parents worry anymore when their kids aren't home by the time the sun goes down?
The headmistress of this school or maybe the ministry of education should ban the use of yugioh cards in schools. Children are there to learn not to duel. Dueling with these cards are a big thing in many schools and it should be rooted out and this regrettable incident as Saints just proves it.

How did Mr. Jagdeo afford his pradoville house...Integrity Commission anyone?
In her recent allegations against the
President, the First Lady stated that Mr. Jagdeo works for $200,000 monthly. Now this is the curious part. This fantastically huge, multi multi multi million dollar house that the President built in Ogle. How did he afford it? did he even pay for the land it was built on?
And since His Excellency is calling on all MP's to make their declarations to the Integrity Commission, will he be also making his? The best way to lead is by example Mr. President.

The 'TH' Sound
Ok boys and girls, today's lesson will be pronunciation. Now, who can say the word three? No it’s not pronounced tree. C’mon people, it’s a simple thing to do – just put your tongue between your teeth and blow. There shouldn’t be an excuse as to why most Guyanese people do not pronounce the ‘th’ sound. Yes, I give you that we speak Guyanese creole, but do we have to make even the simplest of standard English language statements sound so raw and uncultured? We should all be more conscious of how we speak and the way we do it. What in the world is a ‘towsand’? Like the tootsie pop phrase – 'the world may never know'.
Why is most of the media silent on the Varshnie Jagdeo allegations?
I find it rather surprising that many news organisations in the country seem to be shying away from giving the Varshnie Jagdeo allegations much coverage. Why is that so? While the muted response from NCN, Chronicle and Times is understandable, I hope it's not because of fear of a backlash from the President that has many other news agencies cautious. Probably is it regarded as not being newsworthy but considering the fact that the news has been picked up in the region already, I guess that says that it is news. Come on you guys in the media, do your jobs, report the news!
Priya Manickchand: Your silence says it all
I heard nothing all day from Ms. Manickchand concerning the allegations of abuse made against her boss by his wife. The President and First Lady respectively.
Priya why are you quiet? are you going to join the litter of hypocrites that the PPP has? I guess what they say is true, if you lie down with the dogs, you are going to get fleas.
You disappoint, not just me, but many many people in this country.

Kwame tells Ram about conflict of interest
I'm wondering who taught Kwame that little bit about conflict of interest issue that he leveled against Christopher Ram? Since I have my doubts that he's capable of recogonising that for yourself with your head so far up your boss's arse, I'm thinking that you got that notion from all those years of reading the barber lacking Freddie Kissoon who has written on that issue countless times. At least you're reading, that's good...
Fidelity Report to reach Parliament on Thursday
Finally! A long, detailed article appearing in the Stabroek News today reveals a little bit of what is expected from the full report on the polar beer scam when it is released to the National Assembly tomorrow.
The report which tells of the uncooperative manner of many customs officials, the manipulating of records, submissions of fake documents calls for criminal charges to be laid against 14 customs officers and the customs broker named in the scam.
This particular broker in an effort to remove from suspicions about him and his meteoric accumulation of wealth recently and quite hurriedly sold of one of his many assets from the East Coast to the owner of a popular (and expensive book store) for quite a bargain price.
Taxes form the backbone of an economy. How else can the government provide for its citizens? It is for that reason that tax evasion should be condemned by all decent Guyanese (Not the lawyers, many of whom aren’t decent and they are some of the biggest tax cheats). In America, a country that many of us admire, robbing Uncle Sam is tantamount to committing murder. The offenders in the polar beer scam should not be treated lightly, they should face the full force of the law.

Bharat comments on Economic Freedom
In response to the recent Index of Economic Freedom reports, the President said that he is not going to bother with a conservative right wing body ranking of the country, pointing out such bodies promote western interests and are very susceptible to influence, using the example of places like Libya which is ranked very low.
Check out his entire response here.

He Might Be The Next…
Attorney General. The unfolding drama between the President and his wife has the attention of many and while all eyes are focused there, I just can’t help but wonder, if the man that’s acting as the President’s Lawyer isn’t now seen as the clear front runner for the post of Attorney General.
The President has enough faith in Anil to have him as his personal lawyer, so what’s not to say that he thinks Anil should have the top Judicial Job in the Country. If he is offered the job though, I do think it will be a bad decision.
Time will tell…

Nonsense from the President
In responding to some of Ms. Jagdeo’s claims, the President did not confirm or deny any of the allegations but he did state that he cannot allow state resources to be used for personal reasons by Ms. Jagdeo, regardless of how well intentioned her efforts are. Mr. President, that’s bullshit!
It is more than well known that Ministers in your government use state resources for personal reasons all their time. Vehicles are used to take wives/husbands all across the country, shopping, sporting, jogging or to so may other places. State vehicles are used to transport the kids of ministers to school, work, clubs and where ever they wish to go, and if a vehicle alone is requested by one, it is given so don’t go telling the nation that you couldn’t allow Varshnie to use two state vehicles for the betterment of the citizens in this country, that is nonsense, utter nonsense, even coming from a man who I’m accustomed to hearing a nonsense from.
You were a man I once respected and thoughtly highly of, now you are regarded as a stain against the men of this country, and an even bigger embarrassment to the people of Guyana. You have every attribute of a dog except loyalty, you make me sick, and I’m appalled to know that I’m from the same country as you. I'd call you a sadistic, parsimonious, necrophile, but that would be like beating a dead horse wouldn't it and as of this moment, I get the feeling that if you were a woman Bharrat (I still have my doubts that you’re not), I’d guess you to be one of those mothers who eats their young; you are a cruel savage and a sad excuse for a man!!!!

Priya Manickchand Should Resign.
Ms. Manickchand, I’ve had a few opportunities to meet you and I have always felt that you are truly one of the most genuine and sincere ministers in this pathetic government. I have nothing but deep admiration for the work you do in spite of the many challenges you face. No one can deny that you have faithfully and diligently performed your job to the best of your abilities.
However with the revelations made by the First Lady of this country, with regards to the systematic and cruel punishment doled out to her by her husband, your boss, you are now faced with an unenviable dilemma. How can you just ignore the accusations of Ms. Jagdeo and continue working for the man that was the source of all her abuse and torment? Isn't that the epitome of hypocrisy? doesn't that go against everything that you and your ministry stand for?
Unless, you publicly voice your dissenting opinion, rebuke the President, urge the nation to not follow his example, among other measures then you would be perceived as just another of the many hypocrites that litter the PPP regime and your position as Minister of Human Services will hold no credibility to the citizens of this country.
Do the right thing Ms. Manikchand.

Shaik Baksh son robbed
As reported in the news, the son of the Minister of Education was robbed of his $250,000 ipod and US$250 by two men.
I know some people are thinking that finally some people are benefiting from the generosity of the state, however that is wrong and such actions should never be condoned. The rule of law must always be upheld.
But wow, a $250,000 ipod, WOW…If the statement that Varshnie Jagdeo gave is correct that would make the cost of this ipod more than a months’ pay for the President, WOW.
I wonder how the Minister was able to afford this. This is why we need forensic audits, in addition to the Integrity Commission for parliamentarians, government functionaries, and senior public servants. I have this nagging feeling though that it might be listed as a gift from an overseas relative when declarations are made to the commission…that’s the thing with declarations; they doesn’t have to be true. And that’s a fact.

First Lady alleges that the President is a Domestic Abuser.
The story that rocked the country and set tongues wagging is without a doubt the explosive allegations leveled against the President by the First Lady.
In a shocking announcement, Ms. Jagdeo chronicles the years of abuse, torment, frustrations that she endured at the hands of Mr. Jagdeo. Starting with being evicted from the President’s bedroom one week after their wedding and ending with her being kicked out of State House, the First Lady chronicles the years of abuse she endured by our Preident including being financially neglected, having to sleep on a sofa and being torn apart by the mosquitoes, receiving food and accommodation from a relative whenever locked out of her apartment at State House, being denied the opportunity to work, attend functions in the country and around the world, being refused ‘official’ First Lady status when she traveled.
His actions were not just directed to the First Lady as well, Kids First Fund, also suffered terribly. The President refused to give Ms. Jagdeo any support for her charity, denied her the use of vehicles that she previously enjoyed and stymied many of her endeavors, blocked her from attending conferences and fund raising ventures overseas.
Ms. Jagdeo paints the picture of a cruel, vindictive, insensitive, spiteful man, a man that so many in this country profess to love.
Do not expect to hear much of this on the pages of Chronicle, they’re going to have a front page filled with Barack Obama, and NCN will fit in a tiny tiny tiny mention sometime. Expect Criticism to flow from the opposition, independent commentators and newspapers. Outrage will come from the letter writers in the independent newspapers and embarrassment will be provided from the rest of the world. Thank you Mr. President, for showing the world that the men of this country are such fine, model citizens, men and human beings. Thank you!

Congratulations Mr. Obama
Congratulations to the newly sworn in President of the United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama.
The hard work, the long and tedious job begins now, good luck.
The hard work, the long and tedious job begins now, good luck.
He did have some words concerning those public servants
Further to this, It turns out that Mr. President did have some words concerning the Robeson Benn matter. In his press conference yesterday, His Excellency stated there is justification in the firing of two senior public servants. If that is indeed the matter, then so be it. The issue at hand here is the fact that Minister Benn does not have the jurisdiction to dismiss these workers. Mr. President with his executive powers can, but Ministers cannot, so come on Mr. President, let's get this right. Get to the bottom of this.
President wants us to watch the Inauguration
In this most recent press conference His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo implored Guyanese to watch the swearing in ceremony of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States later today, saying that he would be watching it himself. That’s a super great thing for our President because it’s not often that he slows down to watch some television.
It’s not often that we should follow the president in his actions, as he does some really questionable things however this time there is an exception. People across the world will be joining our president and many in this nation as we watch this historic occasion.
So fellow guyanese, join the rest of the world as we celebrate and rejoice in this together.

Guyana Crashes to second straight defeat
Two rounds into this years' four day regional cricket competition, Guyana is still without a point, currently we're in last place. This is totally unacceptable. Is the Guyana team trying to live up to the reputation of the region's senior team?
I heard some idiot say that we're losing because our best players were with the senior team, well you know what, the other countries are without their stars as well, so it's a fair playground. Our young guys just aren't getting it right
Before the slide becomes too steep, before this snowballs into a bigger mess resembling that of the West Indies team of late, the local authorities, headed by Chetram Singh need to start corrective action as soon as possible and do whatever is necessary to get the local team back up there with the big boys. It's where we belong, but we won't get there if we continue playing as we have been doing recently.

Presidential Ramblings...
His excellency who just yesterday came back from his out of the way trip, was back in the accusatory mood, which he is often in these days and was filled with political rhetoric and accusations which by now is known to be just words.
The latest in his long list of accusations was directed towards Christopher Ram who he is accusing of writing the PNC manifesto, now that is quite a claim, wonder what else he will think of next. Maybe the PPP should get someone to help them write theirs also, they intellectually bankrupt party could sure use the help. Freddie Kissoon would love to help them, providing they stop interfering at UG.
Another issue the President dealt with was that tiny matter concerning the Integrity Commission. He wants all parliamentarians to make their declarations to the commission in two weeks time or face the brunt of the law. "I am going to request the Police to charge them " were his exact words, and while it sounds like he means business this time, but I doubt it. He isn't going to let any of his buddies face the law. And since I'm on the issue of the Integrity commission, what's so wrong with having an audit of their assets as the parliamentary opposition is calling for. PPP mouth piece Donald Romotar has stated the Integrity Commission is enough to deal with the financial position of parliamentarians but that's hardly acceptable. Khemraj Ramjattan rightfully states that the declarations made to the commission may be very inaccurate and deceptive. So Mr. President, let's have those audits. If your Government is as clean as you claim, here is another opportunity to prove it.
In his Press Conference the President also announced that Libya is GOING to be reopening an embassy here and will be sending a large team to examine potential investment here. I guess he did bring back goodies, forgive me however if I'm not jumping for joy because neither of those is going to help me afford to purchase those expensive vegetables in bourda market. Mr. Jagdeo also took aim at his critics (not the 'sleazeball' Freddie Kissoon) who shared their opinion about him traveling to that part of the world. Apparently he thinks the critics are two narrow minded and focus too much on the countries that we have relations with. In other words, we need to find new countries to help build the next bridge or install the next set of traffic lights. Libya apparently has billions upon billions, tens of billions of dollars in reserve and our oh so bright president is hoping to tap into some of that.
However, I heard nothing from him concerning Minister's Robeson Benn gross abuse of power, why the silence Mr. President?
For those who miss it, catch the entire thing all this week on NCN!

He’s back…I just wish he wasn’t
Any guesses who I’m talking about? No, not the president, yall have some manners! I’m talking about DJ Stress. After a few weeks without that booming, annoying voice on the television, I was plunged into deep annoyance when I heard him announcing another party at Buddy’s poolside. This coming after he had about 6 FINAL poolside parties last year. I don’t know why this man doesn’t get a real job instead. So now I have to look forward to hearing him every time channel 13 goes to a commercial break now…I have a feeling I won’t be watching 13 as much as I was recently…

Retirement age...
One of the most urgent matters that should be reviewed is that of the mandated retirement age in this country. It is unspeakable, beyond surprising, unconscionable that in this day and age that we force skilled, trained individuals to retire at 55yrs when it is obvious that they are capable and willing to offer so much more to this country when we desperately need then yet for some other reason, we are refusing.
The horrible thing though is that we cannot afford to refuse them. This country is short of qualified, experienced, competent personnel, many of whom have been forced to sit and home and collect a miserly pension or those that have migrated to other countries for better salaries, benefits, comforts, and a better standard of living in general.
Many of them have left for either Canada or America where there is no mandated retirement age but laws or policies for certain occupations set the limit for those involved in those positions. In America, a person cannot even be forced to retire because (s)he is 70 yrs or older.
Yet here in Guyana, with a shortage of quality workers we are forcing qualified, experienced workers to retire. Imagine, university lecturers with PhD’s and Masters have to retire, teachers, public servants, and judges etal are forced to retire when they reach a certain age in a country that needs them more than ever.
The Powers To Be (they should be the ones retiring to say the least), like to say that the populace is much better off now than years ago, that would seem to imply that people are happier, healthier and living longer so why should they not be allowed to work as long as they are competent enough to?
Even if they are not in favor of raising the retirement age, at least, make it voluntary so that those workers who are capable and willing to continue are given the opportunity to do so.
It’s just a thought, only a thought…

Robeson Benn...
…is a bullying, arrogant man. Some will say that he does work, unlike a few of his ministerial buddies, but someone should tell him that it is NOT his job to be firing public servants, no but’s, if’s or maybe’s about that.
The two employees that were recently sent home should not take this insult and arrogance from a man who surely does not know his limitations. Take his ass to court and get writs of Certiorari, Mandamus and Prohibition against him. Mr. English and Ms. Bowen, I’m sure you know that you have rights and what was done to you was wrong and therefore you should not go quietly into the night and let this injustice prevail. You must take a stand, not just for yourself but for others also because as sure as day turns into night, other ministers will suddenly start to feel that they have the right to just dismiss anyone at their whims and fancy.
Mr. President, the actual President, not the silent, ribbon cutting, decorative acting one. I hope that when you return from your two nations trip, that you will play a role in correcting this glaring and blatant wrong and maybe even have a rebuke for Mr. Benn while you’re at it. I’m not too certain about that though, but I can hope. One thing I am certain about though is that Mr. English and Ms. Bowen should not be dismissed BY Minister Benn.
Today is Martin Luther King Day, and many of us know who he was and what he stood for, I leave you with one of his best quotes:

Judges wanted and they want their benefits
Nadia Guyadeen in an article titled “GBA President calls for introduction of temporary judges” lamented the lack of High Court Judges and the backlog of cases that the Court faces. However, nearing the end of her article Ms. Guyadeen gets her facts wrong. In listing the 9 current High Court Judges, Nadia included the name ‘Jainarayan Singh’. Now if she had done some research, even the tiniest bit, she would have realized that Justice Singh is no longer a judge, and he hasn’t been since September 30th 2008 when he vacated the bench, without his deserved benefits I might add which Carl Singh has allegedly refused to grant him. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! Give the man what he rightfully and legally earned, and maybe while you’re at it, don’t forget Juliet Holder Allen either.
I should note that I find the silence of Justice Singh’s former colleagues rather surprising especially considering the fact that many of them are acting judges, just as he was and I’m sure they realize that they could face the same fate, but what do I know, maybe they know where they’re benefits are coming from.
I am certain that Justice Singh does not need the benefits OWED to him but he worked for them and it’s the principle involved. Should this not be corrected, then it sets precedent, and the current High Court Judges would not like to have this as a precedent but like I said earlier, maybe they know where they’re benefits are coming from…

Nothing to laugh about
After six (6) sold out shows at various venues, this hilariously entertaining show, with Henry Rodney as its director, makes its grand appearance at the National Cultural Center on January 24th.
For those of you who haven’t seen this as yet, be sure you get your tickets before, because trust me, they’re very much in demand and if you don’t get them, someone else sure will and you would have missed out on a really nice show.
And for those that have seen it before, you know it was worth the money before and many of you would like to go again. Let me tell you this, the tickets are cheaper this time around, there has been minor changes to the show and Henry Rodney, one of Guyana’s most talented, respected and versatile performers will be delivering a solo performance just before the show commences.
So be sure to check it out. The date is January 24th at 8pm. Tickets cost $500, $600, $1000 and the dress code is in effect.

Our Frequent Flyer President
Guyana’s most notable frequent flyer is expected back later today. No, I’m not talking about a group of birds who unlike berbicians, actually return to this country after getting their visas, or even the Mayor (for the time being). The flyer in question is none other but His Excellency the President himself. Can anyone at GINA deny that Mr. President uses the airlines even more than some pilots?
The President and his entourage are expected home (2 ministers, 1 adviser, 1 tag-a-long) from their intended tri-nations tour. Intended because they only visited Libya and Greece as Qatar requested him to postpone his visit.
I just have one question to ask: Apart from the ‘promise’ of a possible embassy here from Libya and a medal from Greece, what did Mr. President achieve for the people of Guyana that would actually benefit the taxpayers who again, have to foot the bill for this?
Prem? Roger? Kwame? Chronicle or Times letter section?...Anyone?

Doodnauth Finally Goes, Who Replaces Him?
With the impending retirement (finally) of our Honorable Attorney General at the end of this month, speculation is rife about his possible replacement. Mr. Singh has served this country very long, too long some say. It’s more than time for him to call is quits and while he is at it, he can carry Rohee, Baksh and Jagan with him into the retirement era where they can collect their old age pension (Yay, the President recently raised that figure by about $300, Yay).
Mr. Singh was very respected during his lengthy career (50 years to be exact) in the legal profession and deserved most of the accolades and plaudits that he received, with maybe the possible exception of the post of Attorney General that was gifted to him in 2001. That post given to him after he presided over one of the most destructive elections in this Nation’s history, was suspicious, questionable and cast severe doubts on his character and reputation. For the eight years that he held on to the position, it can be argued that Mr. Singh did very little to make the law, and the legal system any better. Now that he is vacating his post however, the rumor mill is busy with suggestions of possible replacements and three names keep popping up. Anil Nandalall, Charles Ramson and Ralph Ramkarran.
The most popular of these names for the position would be Anil, who has been touted as the next AG for so long. The thing though, is that Anil hasn’t done much to enhance his career enough to deserve the top position and while his skills are thought to be competent enough, he still comes across as wild and irresponsible at times and does not have the backing of many in the profession. Probably the biggest hindrance to Anil is his personal life (well those things don’t matter to this regime).
Mr. Charles Ramson is the least favorite of the three, a former AG, now Appellate Court Judge. This man has been a legal practitioner for a great many years and while he is thought to be very good, especially in land law matters, his biggest problem is his big mouth and his oversized ego. Ramson, thinks that he is best there is, God’s gift to mankind and he has no problems preaching that sermon to time after time. He is difficult to work with, and those of you who can remember the upheaval that he had that place in the last time he occupied the AG post would be certain that a repeat is very far from being desired. I hope the President takes Ramson’s past tenure into consideration when making his decision.
Mr. Ramkarran, the esteemed Speaker of the House. Mr. Ramkarran, is one of the most outstanding attorneys in the country and while he is a member of the ruling PPP, he has performed quite credibly in his post as Speaker, displaying utmost levels of professionalism and fairness. Anyone remember that little incident with himself and Rohee in Parliament last year? It exemplifies the fact that Mr. Ramkarran is not afraid of breaking with party ranks in order to be fair, a trait that many of his fellow PPP members sorely lack. It is for that reason that finding detractors of Mr. Ramkarran’s character, reputation, and abilities are few and far to come by. However, with his job as speaker of the House respected and secure, a lucrative private practice it is hard to imagine that he would leave that post to take up one at AG chambers, especially considering that he’s rumored to be harboring thoughts of being the next President. It is for that reason that he’s unlikely to be the choice, although he is the best choice.
Finally, it has been suggested that Mr. President, might make a benevolent step and choose someone from outside the core ranks of PPP supporters, if so, this would be very welcomed as it would be a small sign that the Government is willing to reach out to other groups. I guess we have to wait and see, time will tell.

Television in Guyana -- A Review Pt I
Let me begin this post with a big yawn. My, that was certainly refreshing. At least it's more refreshing than compared to what shows on television here in Guyana. Yes, I know -- we're all accustomed to watching our soaps, talk shows and other potpouri that airs everyday on the various television stations. However, have you checked to see what comes over when these shows are not being aired? If you have then you'll agree with me -- it's all just a waste of space. Watching old women drink tea is better than sitting to watch the telly, face it -- at least you'd be getting some lip action. there.
Now, let's narrow down the stations that most people watch.
For me, the number one station on during the day (despite it's down time during the morning hrs) is RBS Channel 13 -- yes, good ol' Mr Rambarran has been working hard to keep his viewership. How hard has he been working though? Yes, I must commend you for the few shows that I do enjoy, thus tuning in disciple-ishly every time they show to get in on the latest. But honestly, how many times are we going to watch that one episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Raymond brings home the dog? No wonder the poor thing got neutered at the end (or is it spey? I'm not quite sure which is which, plus i'm a bit lazy to actually go check). If I see that episode one more time, i'm going to have you speyed/neutered Mr Rambarran (pass that on to your operators if it's not your fault).
Next, comes VCT Channel 28. Ah, the channel with the most. Although being one to air quite a few ... er MANY boring shows, VCT 28 takes the cake for serving up a plethora of goodies for all to enjoy. I just might actually leave ol' Veira out of the mix of bad television stations -- at least for now that is. Keep up the good ... well fairly good, work Mr PNC-R 1G-Member/MP. And keep airing How Clean Is Your House (Yes, yes we do love the English don't we).
All other stations follow these two. With WRHM Channel 7 (C'mon Rexy -- step it up!!) and GEN Channel 2 tailing very closely behind.
Now, for the worst of the worse.
NCN 11 -- Oh Gawd, who would have thought – a channel that’s worse than having a tooth pulled by using a pair of pliers. Never can I remember actually tuning into NCN for more than 5-6 mins. Yes people, it’s that bad! Oh, and let’s not forget – the lackluster stylings of their star reporter Mr Paul ‘exciting-as-moldy-cheese’ Moore.
HBTV Channel 9 – Sorry, but I cannot watch African Moods 24/7. Soon I’ll be saying ‘Get out of my compound’ insistently and in an accent as fake as Michael Younge’s (maybe Michael’s trying to distract persons away from his freakishly large forehead by putting on a freakishly stupid accent. Who knows?).
MTV Channel 65 – C’mon Sister ‘D’ teach your frickin’ reporters some frickin’ proper English, or better yet – hire ‘educated’ people. No Romel Roopnarine – you are not the next Matt Lauer and you never will be. Sorry ms news anchor, Anna Lisa Bahadur – going commando whilst wearing an almost see-thru skirt will never be ‘in'.
Ok, nuff said for now. Stay tuned for Part II of my thoughts on Television in Guyana – A Review.
Heroes.
Living in this country can sometimes be depressing, very depressing and we see things that diminish our faith in mankind, not just in our country but the world in general (Like what’s going on in Gaza right now) however, if you were fortunate to see ‘dateline’ tonight where they showcased 10 inspiring stories from everyday heroes, it was a truly moving experience and if you were struggling with your faith in mankind or this world then that show would have certainly rejuvenated and reinvigorated you.
There are many unsung heroes in our country and they’ll probably never read this but now I’d just like to offer two simple but appreciative words --THANK YOU.

Entertainment, or lack thereof
One cannot believe how unbelievably bored I have been recently, and trust me, there are many many many others like me.
Understandable that there clubs, bars, rum shops galore and a few great places to eat but what happens when someone just wants to go out and spend a quiet evening with family or friends and not feel compelled to spend or use the facilities. Let’s face it, with the possible exceptions of the sea breeze hotel (seawalls) and the city mall there isn’t anywhere else and that is quite unfortunate to say the least.
Guyana in the 21st seems so far behind the rest of the world and even so far behind our regional neighbors that it’s beyond depressing. With the majority of the population between 16-35yrs and many living on or below the poverty line, what are these people to do for recreation and entertainment? Since not everyone wants to go clubbing or drinking and even the clubbers sometimes need a break or the clubs just seem the same, week after week.
It really is sad that there is no place where quality time can be spent. Why can’t we have a theater, maybe even a multiplex? I know for a fact that there are many persons who would love to view some of the latest movies on the big screen with superb audio, but currently who wants to go to those two buildings available, which act more as extra cheap hotels with big screens and even larger rats.
The Georgetown Zoo used to be so great years ago, it could have outclassed many in the Caribbean and it was a great place to go with your family in the afternoons, especially on the weekends, but we all know what that place is like now, speaking of which, didn’t the zoo receive funding to provide proper cages for those struggling, stifling harpies?
The theater business has also taken a great hit in recent years with many of the stalwarts of this great form of entertainment either migrating, dying while some just got frustrated and gave up. Consequently, it’s another terrible loss for quality entertainment in Guyana and sadly things aren’t looking to get any brighter anytime soon. It’s sad, too sad.

Chanders gets a few more accolades.
Fortunately I’m not speaking about those ‘our version of crystal’ things that were presented at the Cultural Centre sometime back. I’m talking about something much much much better.
After copping the ICC player of the year award and Wisden Cricketer of the year, and a few others, Shiv has scored four more awards. This time they are the Cricinfo awards. Cricinfo, for those of you unaware, is the premier website for all things cricket, past and present.
Shiv won the awards for Batsman of the year, Most Consistent Test Batsman, Best Test Batsman, Highest percentage of team runs. These are the rich and truly deserving awards for this son of the soil. During the period in question, he scored over 909 runs in 9 test matches against the top ranked teams.
Since the retirement of Brian Lara, Shiv has finally been given his due credit and one of the few remaining unfinished matters is for Mr. President himself to upgrade Shiv from the Golden Arrow of Achievement to the Order of Excellence, as he has shown himself to be more than deserving of it.

Mayor and Dysfunctional City Council
So I was just browsing the tele and saw this public service announcement from the dysfunctional Mayor and City Counselors (MCC) trying to reeducate people about the uses of plastic bags. Personally, I think this is necessary because as a country we use too many plastic bags, and we really need to start using biodegradable, recyclable/reusable bags made of cloth, canvas, paper etc (Kudos to Nigels Supermarket for ridding themselves of plastic) and it’s for that reason I support the MCC in this call, and I urge citizens to heed this call and try to avoid using many plastic bags.
Now back to the ad, first of all the presenter was ok-ish, as I said before, seems like everybody can get on TV these days, but to be fair, she was better than many, although at times she did remind me of that cookie monster from sesame street, especially her round googly eyes when she was repeating “1.5 Million”. Secondly, the math involved. Since the last census, a great number of persons have left these shores for greener, if not colder and whiter pastures so it’s foolish to think that we still have 750,000 persons in this country. Thirdly, the logic, even if there are 750,000 people in the country, all of them do not use at least two plastic bags daily, it is just impossible. Other than those, it was a just a super great Ad…

Working Government.
Now the Government once again has used its parliamentary majority to once again serve the people of this land with great effect. This time they used it to defeat an opposition motion calling for live, UNEDITED broadcast of the National Assembly. (does the opposition ever get a motion passed)
Now what's so wrong with that? what's wrong with letting the people see what really goes on there without the propaganda machine putting its spin on things. Why they did this though is not hard to see, I guess they are just trying to cover up the obvious incompetence of their ranks, hide the fact that many of their parliamentarians are often absent and yet they’re collecting taxpayers money, or maybe the Government does not want to Guyanese to see what really goes when the national assembly is in session, the farce that it is. They expect Guyanese to just accept that the opposition has nothing to offer, or that the PPP bench has all the good ideas, and eloquent speakers, at least that’s how NCN tries to make it seem…seriously can someone tell me when last they saw an opposition member speaking on NCN?
Personally though, I wouldn’t mind not seeing what goes on in Parliament. It’s so bland, boring, corrupt and beyond predictable. The speaker will always disallow opposition motions, accept those by the PPP, opposition bills and motions are never passed, the idea that the PPP will not get even one through is just plain shocking and unthinkable , and the amount of white lies told in that building would be enough to cover a 9 tier wedding cake!

Disappointment
Can you imagine I've been lying in bed for the past 3hours waiting for lowly Bangladesh to end their pathetic innings just so I could watch Sanath hit a few thunderous fours and sixes and now when the time is here, the bloke goes and gets run out FIRST FRIGGING BALL...now I guess I'm supposed to follow the Australia game instead...what's that I hear? the beautiful sound of my bed calling it is...see ya, off I go to dream about the promise that this Country has, but more than likely I'll end up with a nightmare caused by the sad reality of life in Guyana.
Update: Sri Lanka did win and I did have that nightmare, something about Jagdeo for a third term (maybe I've been reading too much Freddie)

Government at work.
The title says it all, this week we’re really going to see the government working, they’ll even be putting in a few hours of overtime.
No guys, they’re not going to be addressing the flood situation on the east coast, nor will they be looking at the crisis at GuySuco or that sinking new road and bridge we have in the ancient county. This week the Government will be working to discredit the findings of an annual Wall Street Journal/Heritage report that has recently been released.
The Index of Economic Freedom World Rankings, compiled annually and globally, lists Guyana at 155, which is even lower than Haiti, which is widely regarded as the poorest country in the world. Guyana actually sits at the bottom of all countries in Caricom, and 27/29 in the region actually.
What it effectively means is that there isn’t much freedom for economic activity here, businesses are heavily screened, non-transparent (remember the Sanata deal) and licenses take forever to be given (except if you’re buddy buddy with the kings of this Country). The report also encompasses government size, investment, business trade and corruption.
The report also did not fail to note that for the past five years, all of which have been under the ever watchful eye of a trained economist (we know what kind of economics he knows) that we’ve only managed about 1% growth yearly, that is unacceptable. It is said that 57% of our GDP goes towards government spending, which more often than not were spent on poorly managed expenditures, and increased social spending, which ultimately does more harm than good.
The size of the government also received attention, notably so, why do we need a ministry of Foreign affairs and Foreign trade, why do we need two ministers of Education and why does Mr. President need all that advisers, who seem to give no advice, what the heck does LaPumba do?
Of course, the ever present Corruption was given honorable mention as well. According to the report, Guyana is the 123rd most corrupt country in the world, but I’m sure most of us already knows that. It is stated that corruption is everywhere, from the government itself to law enforcement and even the judiciary. Speaking of which, the judiciary was noted to be slow, inefficient and very much subject to corruption and the government is often accused of intervening in certain matters, again, we all know that and we all know who Carl Singh and a few others really work for.
The report was quite insightful and scathing, a lot of the shortcomings of the present government was highlighted, but they weren’t the only ones, the corrupt, incompetent customs officials also came in for severe criticisms, not to mention our extremely, burdensome 33% tax rate for workers and an even higher 35% for corporations.
Yes people, the government is going to work, they are going to tell us how the report is flawed and contain many errors, they are going to tell us that the country that the report comes from is no better than us, and they are going to tell us how better off we are now than during the 28yrs of PNC rule, they are going to tell us everything that they can think of the dispute the facts of this report, but they are not going to admit that anything written is true or even partly true and they certainly aren’t going to make an effort to correct any of the many wrongs listed.
Watch out people for your working government, coming to you via Guyana Times, Guyana Chronicle, NCN and a few select shows on Channel 65 and 69.

Desperate Guyanese
One of the stupidest, annoying, degrading and just plain horrible shows to ever hit the airwaves in this country made its sudden reappearance on television tonight, with a host that’s as subtle as a hand grenade.
“Lonely hearts” a show made popular by the alleged electricity thief and self proclaimed Dr. Love (aka Kenny Warner) is now back on TV, Channel 93 to be exact (For those interested, it’s on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10pm). This time the show has a new host going by the name Kwasie. A guy with a rather booming voice (or was that the studio’s fault) and a talent for mispronunciation and exemplary bad grammar. I tell you, the only flair this guy has is in his nostrils.
Can you imagine however, that the first night back and the show was actually attracting callers, much less viewers? What the heck is up with Guyanese? Anyways it was hardly surprising because as we all know, Guyanese people have a knack for these corny, cheesy nonsense.
My question is though, are these people mostly ugly trolls, horribly smelly, ridiculously fcuked up or have some other defect that they just can’t go out and make friends and lovers the good ole fashion way? Are they afraid that people are going to see them and run? Seriously are people that desperate? They need to go out and get lives. Can you imagine some fugly looking person sitting at home right now in Campbellville waiting for their prince Charming from ‘lonely hearts’ to call and don’t you know it, they’re getting a version of fineman Rawlins instead (I do think that’s how he met Tenisha Morgan though).
This show wasn’t just plain terrible, this was fancy terrible, this was terrible with whipped cream on top. I wish I had never stumbled across this dreadful show and an even more unforgettable host tonight, and I must ask, who the hell is the producer and what the frig is he thinking? I sincerely think that a huge amount of people on television would be better employed keeping rabbits…

Paul Moore - NCN superstar ... err NOT!!
Where in the world did this frigger appear from? OMG, he is single-handedly the worst news report ever to appear on television. Someone quick – get him some Prozac, Zantac or some other *tac. Maybe that will actually get him to put some life and pep into this reporting. The man is plain ol' boring. He gives a new meaning to the word melancholy. I don’t know who in their right mind would want to sit and watch him for half an hour. I have tried for a few minutes – this led to me wanting to bash my head in – at the least pain would be better than having to endure his sloooow speech. Really, why is this man still reporting for NCN news? Someone needs to suggest to Fuzzy to fire his ass, or maybe Fuzzy’s brain has already become road-kill from the countless bashings he’s done over the past year or so as a result of actually listening to him.
Paul Moore you are as exciting as moldy cheese. Bitch, Please do us all a favour and GO AWAY! And stop saying 'thank you (insert other news anchor's name here)' You are not on the TODAY Show. Your frigging desk is smaller than the one I had in nursery school, so it's not like they have to switch cameras to get you. She's right, friggin, there!!
Bus Stops
Sometime in December, the Police did a wonderful thing. They reintroduced bus stops along regent street and I for one must say "It's about time". I know that a lot of people will hate this because it's human nature to be resistant to change and let's face it, we've conditioned ourselves to some rather obnoxious attitudes. The idea that buses stop at any point, at the whim and fancy of drivers and passengers alike is totally disgusting and disorderly. As a people we should come to accept order in society, so it was a great thing for me when I saw that the police were setting up bus stops at strategic points along what is Guyana's busiest shopping area -- an area where vehicular traffic knows no boundaries, where laws are flaunted and lawlessness prevails.
Now that the bus stops have been reintroduced, the police must ensure that they are used for the purpose that they were created. A few trips along regent street have shown that private vehicle owners and other drivers of vehicles other than mini buses continue to park on the area that are clearly marked "BUS ONLY". Maybe these drivers are unaware of the law (pretentious bitches), unable to read (-Ignorant bitches- Maybe they're one of the many asses who bought their license) or they are blatantly flaunting the law (Arrogant bitches- Minister's Kid perhaps) and showing a supreme disrespect for the hardworking policemen of this land. In any case, whatever reasons that these drivers have for parking on the bus only stops is unjustified and I urge the police to do their jobs and deal with these offenders accordingly.
However I must add, that drivers are not the only one disobeying the laws, those folks that stand on the road corners waiting to stop a bus are just as guilty. Why these people can't drag their lazy asses a few more feet to a nearby bus top is beyond me, no wonder so many of them are turning into fat, overweight cows.
Contrary to what a few people think, there are still people in this land who would like to see things run in an orderly manner and I for one am one of them. Of course there are those UN-cultured wretches who just love disorder and would like nothing better for law and order to totally disappear but we urge the police to ensure that this doesn't happen and I urge the good citizens of this land to assist the police in ensuring that this doesn't happen. If you're out and notice someone parked on the bus stops, snap a picture with you're camera or cellphone and send it to us, we'll make sure that it is seen and the offenders are known.

Cultured Ramblings
For those of who who've been reading the blog so far, I just wanna say thank you, at least you have a sense of humor and a brain.
Now to something I've been meaning to write about for a while but it always keeps slipping me, and something that recently came to light. So, let's go.
Presidential Nonsense:
In case you're one of the few persons who missed this, and there must only be a few as this occurrence made even the regional and international news, let me just briefly offer you a recap.
Mr. Jagdeo wants his newly appointed commissioner of police, to track down the person(s) who are responsible for impersonating him on facebook. Seriously, what the Fcuk is wrong with Bharrat? Has he ever heard of something called a sense of humor or this man is totally and utterly incapable of letting something so trivial go?
We all know he has a thing for going after his enemies and the people that he doesn't like but this is a tad too stupid don't you think? What's he going to do, have some 17yr kid arrested and charged for sedition? (Another Oliver Hinkson in the making probably)
With the police force so hard pressed trying to control "real" crime, the Commander-in-Chief wants to waste precious resources on this. Tracking down someone on facebook, something that our understaffed, ill equipped force would be more than hard pressed to do.
There are several world leaders with 'profiles' on social networks like hi5, facebook, myspace to name a few, most notably US President George Bush who has about 16 in total. Now if the man with all the resources in the world who could have this done in an instant is not bothered with it, why is Jagdeo so concerned? Wasn't it he that earlier last year called for the youth of Guyana to use hi5 etal? He should instead order Mr. Greene to find out exactly what happened to the money from OP. Now there's a real job for you Mr. Commissioner.
Seriously Mr. President, you need to let it go a little, go on a vacation, you really need some time away and we sure could use some time without you.
I guess I should watch what I say before he has the Police Force tracking down this cultured wretch!

Model ... or so He claim's:
Readers of Friday Kaieteur News would recognize the name Alex Wayne as being the writer for the entertainment section.
They would also note that Alex is also a model..What DA F---
Have you seen this guy? more importantly, has he seen himself? There are some established criterion for being a model and those criteria exist for a reason, to keep unwanted, beauty challenged people out of the profession. So what happens when people ignore these rules? Well we have isolated cases of Alex Wayne. This guy does not fit any of the prescribed requirements to be a model. Tall? No. Good looking? No. Stage Presence? No. What then does he think he is doing, if not only making a fool of himself? and why has someone not told Mr. Wayne before that he is no model is beyond me, or maybe he was told and the message went beyond him. He is a journalist after all and one can only hope that his journalistic skills are FAR superior to his modeling travesty. Mr. Wayne, I urge you to reconsider that modeling business and leave it to the real models and you just stick to your job of writing about the models please.
(Mr. Wayne standing at left with singer Slingshot)
There are Stupid People:
Whilst reading the newspaper, an old edition actually. I came across an article that drew my attention, and for the record, The general rule is, you NEVER send money to someone that you don't know, especially in order to collect more money.
A local woman was hauled before the court for fraud because she allegedly took 4M that wasn't hers from the church penny bank as a deposit for a 350,000 Euros fortune that she won online...heavy sigh
What are some people thinking? How the heck do you just win a boatload of money just like that? and why should you have to pay before you can collect it?
The woman was informed that she won 350,000 Euros but had to make a monetary deposit before she would receive her check and would you believe it, this woman actually fell for that? Now she is before the court charged with fraud but i can't help but think that she's really charged with being stupid. Now I'm feeling a bit sorry for that woman's husband, because he is now tasked with repaying his wife's embezzlement.
Online scams have been around for ages, as long as porn, we've all heard of them, we've all been told how to detect them but the simplest way is pure common sense. Use a little sense for Christ sakes.
Someone tells you, that you won 1 million but you have to pay 100,000 to get it, why not just say, deduct it from my 1 mil?? So simple eh?

New Law -- Don't Drink & Drive
Ok, so there’s a full fledged campaign out from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force with emphasis on NOT drinking and driving. Apparently, the new law was passed only recently in Parliament and they’re doing all they can to get the word out. However, why is it that only now the law is being passed to place consequences on persons driving under the influence of alcohol? Our lawmakers must really have it easy with the task of actually coming up with new laws. A simple thing as not drinking and driving could not have been thought of all these years, much less other ‘simple’ ones that just pass idly by. I guess it’s true what people say – the people in governmental positions in Guyana are just there to ‘fill their pockets’ and do nothing as these discrepancies pass idly by.
Nevertheless, the law is here and bringing with it consequences galore.First time offence – a fine of $7,500Second time offence – loss of your licence for one (1) yearThird time offence – permanent loss of licence with up to one (1) year in jail
So ensure you arrive alive – DON’T DRINK & DRIVE!

Purification
What was billed as the purification concert seemed more like an umbrella party. The heavy downpour earlier in the day and the intermittent rain during the evening must have obviously deterred some patrons from the National Park where the first major show of 2009 was in session.
It was sad for those who missed it. Those die hard reggae fans that came out were treated to a high quality show by most of the headlining artists.
First up was Guyana’s own first born who dished out some of their biggest and best known numbers many of which had love for each other as their themes. Of course their staple tune “Black Joint” was very well welcomed by those in attendance who showed their appreciation and enthusiasm throughout the performance. First Born must be commended for a superb performance and as always their conscious vibes were very welcomed.
Next up was Queen Ifrica of “Daddy don’t touch me there” fame. The Queen who came on stage looking very much unlike many of the female stars that we’ve seen recently was a revelation to many. Wearing little makeup and no shoes she delivered a great performance. Her many songs were aimed at spreading the message of love, harmony and togetherness however during the latter part of her performance, apparently the Queen had a change of heart and decided it was time to rant and rage against…yea you guessed it, the gay community…apparently we’re supposed to love and include everyone and be merry with everyone except those gay people…come on people, it’s a new freaking year. Queen Ifrica is just another of the many hypocrites we have out there…preach love for everyone but attach exceptions. I’m sure that all I and the rest of the Gay community need at the moment is for this alleged Queen (Queen of what by the way?) to come and tell anyone how to live their live. I certainly am not telling her how to live her fucking life…oh BITCH PLEASE! Ya know what, let me stop about her…it’s just not worth it. Her performance was aight but I couldn’t wait for that bitch to get off the damn stage.
After that wretch it would have been such a pleasure to have anyone else on stage, even the usually annoying Charmaine Blackman, but this time we were subjected to another jackass of a performer. Who the hell is Jah Thunder? The promoters should have left that fucker where he was, he was just plain annoying. Apparently his aim was the out cuss all the other performers, well congratulations he certainly won that contest handily. Then if that wasn’t enough, he wanted the audience to chant and call for fire, apparently the ass isn’t aware of what that particular expression means to Guyanese, thankfully though, most of them just ignored him. I tell you this, the best part of the evening came when his performance ended…Good Ridden.
After those two Angering acts, it was the greatest pleasure to have Natural Black on stage. How the hell did this guy not win a single Accolade award is beyond me. He is undoubtedly the best performer we have at the moment. Anyways, Natural’s performance was superlative. The crowd support for this local star was tremendous as many sang along to all of his songs including “It nice”, “Gideon Boots”, “High Grade” and more. There were even some new ones in there. Natural performance was excellent and his message was clear, clean and utterly positive. I hope that it resonated with everyone that was there.
Culminating the night was the headliner of the show. Capleton was awesome and like Natural Black before him, he was fully of energy. His many hit songs were sung by the adoring crowd who sang along and waved their hands. There were Guyanese and Ethiopian flags in the air as he sang and implored all to live life. And unlike the Queen earlier, he reminded every man has the right to determine his destiny.
“Who do you think you are?” “Equal Rights” (ya hear that Queen Bitch?), and “Jah Jah city” were some of the more memorable songs that he performed. Capleton delivered a performance deserving of the seasoned veteran he is. He was also in preacher’s mode, imploring everyone to stand firm in THEIR belief and not HIS belief as someone earlier called for. In his message he called for the eradication of AIDS, SARS, Bird Flu but sadly he didn’t say Queen Ifrica also.
At the end of his performance at 3am, the show as over and the crowd left, mostly satisfied.
