MBC - Channel 93
What's the fuss about the lie detector test?
Ordinarily I'd say start at the top then work downwards but ya know what, start somewhere then work around, let something be done. Not only must the low ranked junior workers be tested but also the big wigs, big belly senior bosses as well. Get all of them and let's have a rotisserie with them. Ridding corruption has to start somewhere, and if this is the selected genesis of the eradication of this social plague, then so be it, eventually we'll reach the Government and they're people too...
Oh Fuck NCN, have some manners....
Gone are the good frickin days when there was more than one channel showing cricket, now people gotta settle for this bundle of crap that this lame, government ass-kissing station provides. Some of the people there should just go get some Jim Jones type Kool-aid and do us all a favor.

Finally those judges have been appointed
Congratulations to Diane and Franklin and good luck dealing with that pain in the ass, Carl Singh, and I hope that neither of them becomes another lap dog for the government as some current judges are.
I'm still wondering how long it'll take to replace Ramson over the Appeal Court, and with Claudette retiring soon as well, they'd better start looking for replacements for her as well....but as usual, foresight is lacking.
Guyana Chronicle: What a big fat lie...
Now now now, who are these idiots trying to fool with this blatant, brazen front page lie?? Shouldn't that header read: GUYANA'S MOST FREELY CIRCULATED NEWSPAPER? because the majority of buyers of this particular newspaper are those Government ministries who force it upon the staff.
If they're already lying on the front page, one can just imagine what is contained on the insides of the pages that follow.
Anyways give them a little credit for at least informing the public up front that it's a paper full of lies.
"We'll meet again" On at the National Cultural Centre
However, the promo's that have been airing on television are so ridiculously horrid that it's beyond any criticisms I can conjure up, especially directed towards the performers.
The 'show' costs as much as $1000, with tickets for the matinee performance being $200. I can either get into Coney island and ride free with the thousand or buy the movie 'Philadelphia' (which is a great movie to see and even somewhat similar to the 'show' being held) with the 200 and watch it. Either way my money would be better spent than going to the NCC to see this load of crap.
Perfect example of good conception, horrendous execution. The intention of the producers are welcomed and warranted. We really should not stigmatise or discriminate against HIV infected persons as it just makes it harder to fight this pandemic. BUT...come on guys, if you're going to do something, do it fricking properly for Christ-sakes, and imagine they're actually charging people to see it, gosh, the movie 'Jackass' had better acting talent I'm sure.
Sorry "We'll meet again" but we shall NEVER meet.

What's wrong here?
Janet Jagan, stepping out but not looking too well...
What the heck is wrong with some Guyanese people?
"A MOTHER of seven and her 11-year-old son appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan Edmond Persid on Tuesday, charged jointly with buggering a lad, 12.Some people would like to think that only men are screwed up, fucked up individuals of this land but the women are just as gulity and this story just enforces that beliefts. One must wonder, how can some women can call themselves 'mother'. Just when you think that you cannot be surprised, Guyanese spring another surprise on you...too bad they are never pleasant surprises.
Denise Fawcett, 33, of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, a security guard at Berbice High School was remanded to prison whilst her juvenile child was placed in Police custody, pending a probation report, to ascertain the safety of the victim, to be presented at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice, tomorrow.
The indictable offence was allegedly committed at the home of the accused, where the victim had gone to spend time with his father.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said, between January 1 and 31 last, Fawcett, a married woman, flogged the victim and forced him to perform oral sex with her son who preformed the unnatural sexual act on the former."
I hope that this Honorable Magistrate jails this sick, twisted, fucked up excuse of a woman.

NCN is rich rich rich…
A little question for the people at Digicel
Now, it has been proven that TEXT messages cost little or nothing to transmit between users, why then does Digicel charge somewhere around $10 per message?
After years of swindling the Guyanese people, GTT has righted themselves and are now charging $1 per message (I Love them for that), in part because they know that sending these messages cost them little or nothing to send, regardless of how many are sent.
Now, the people at Digicel might think that the Guyanese people are ungrateful because quite frankly, without them we'd still be stuck with the previously lame Cellink and they're extravagant costs for calls and messages, but be that as it may, Cellink has corrected themselves so why then is Digicel still charging so much? and can they morally criticize GTT for charging so much on overseas calls?

Just some observations about Mash this year. Part 2
Fourthly, The Gays were out. If nothing else, the queer people of this land also came out in full support of this Mash. I guess many of them were probably scouting or recruiting and they made their presence known in the vulgar Mash spirit as well. While I have no objection to them enjoying themselves and sleeping with whoever they choose, just like women though some of their behavior was also totally disgraceful. There was this particular group along the Lamaha embankment in the vicinity of Vlissengen road that was back-balling and carrying on without a care in the world. It was a spectacle to behold and behold is just what people did, along with the taunts and insults that usually accompany them. It’s because of behavior like this that gays find it hard to gain acceptance into society and for the most part, all of them are then branded with the same derogatory term “Antiman”. Free enjoyment for all but again, have some freaking decency.
Finally, the Kids. I was probably most disappointed about this group. These are the babies of society but yesterday these ‘babies’ could have been seen in tight revealing clothing, showing off what they obviously don’t yet have. Some of these lil children (under the age of 10) were even wearing make-up and this totally pissed me off, what the fuck is wrong with some Guyanese mothers that they would dress or allow their kids to dress in this manner. The answer for that is beyond my comprehension, they’re probably still on the cheap crack that they’re still using or maybe and this is sad, probably grooming to kids to follow after mommy and daddy and work the streets. I tell you some people should not be allowed to have responsibility for a rabbit much less a child. At about 10pm last night, walking along Vlissengen road in the vicinity of Dowding street, in front of a stereo system, there was this half dressed little girl, no older than 10, wining and dancing very vulgarly while men just stood around staring and ogling over here. It was despicable. The police and public health officers were on patrol yesterday but what I saw yesterday had me thinking that the Social/Welfare officers should also be working on Mash day.
All of yesterday, just reaffirmed the belief that Mash is one big, vulgar experience and with every passing year Guyana is denigrating into a deeper state of lawlessness. A quick survey would reveal that many of the revelers have no idea what they were celebrating. For them, like Main Street Lime, it is another government sponsored event to wear skimpy clothing, drink rum, and behave with abundant vulgarity.
Just some observations about Mash this year. Part 1
First of all, the biggest difference was the absence of some of the usual big time participants from previous years. The global financial crisis must surely now be eating into the pockets of the local companies. The end result was a toned down float parade but with the never-say-die spirit that Guyanese possesses, they still turned out in droves to celebrate this day.
Secondly, the clothing or rather lack of. It would appear as though the reason for Mash, especially to the women is to get as close to naked as possible. Honestly, some of the sights on the road yesterday were quite alluring while some felt acid being spewed on my eyes. Decency was completely thrown away with our woman kind who seemed determined to show as much as possible and gyrate as provocatively and vulgarly as possible, you had to wonder where parental guidance was, but then, what happens when parental guidance descends into lawlessness as well? Yesterday I saw some things that I did not care to see at all. With sagging ‘bobbies’, ropey arms, scrawny legs and Botox immune wrinkled faces you had to wonder what these ‘grand dames’ were trying to prove. Have they no self respect? I would be so ashamed to see my grandmother or mother parading around with a galvanized peacock.
Thirdly, the Rum. If there was star on Mash day, it was this man. DDL recently launched a campaign to reduce underage drinking and the Minister of Health was encouraging persons to consume less alcohol. I can safely say that those messages are falling on deaf ears. The beers, rums and spirits certainly made their presence felt and I for one would be very interested to know if the Guyana Police Force administered any breathalyzer test last night because there is no one that can honestly tell me that some persons who drank weren’t driving afterwards.

A Glimpse of Mash '09
No Affiliation
In light of a recent comment made about one of our posts (read the post and the comment)I’d like to point out that in no way are we affiliated with either GT&T or Digicel. All thoughts, comments, criticisms and such like are personal and do not bear any favoritism towards Digicel nor their competitor GT&T.
Some thoughts and insights into the T-Pain cancellation...
Now come on Guyanese people, we are often said to be very hospitable people, is this any way to treat our intending guests? Bad bad people, come on bozos, this is not the way to treat the ringleader of the circus.
Now, kidding aside, as some are already speculating, it has to be sabotage on HJTV, but who, remains a mystery though. I can only imagine the financial losses that this promotion company is going to incur because of this cancellation. Why do we as Guyanese continue to want to make the news for all the wrong reasons? Gone are the days when people are just killed, now persons are being threatened to be killed even before they reach Guyana...oh Lord have mercy on us.
The show is still on though, HJTV has managed to include Beenie Man, Biggie Irie, Peter Ram, Sherwyn Winchester and Maxi Priests as the replacements for T-Pain. Personally speaking, I think this line up is much more appealing to the Guyanese people at this time of year. And to some people, T-Pain not coming would be great (the reason for him not coming isn't though). There was very little hype surrounding the original concert, not much interest was generated, ticket sales might have been low which prompted the promoters to unleash a barrage of promotions to give away tickets. So, at the end of the day what's the old maxim? Oh yes, All's well that ends well.
This piece is just speculation on my part however, and I'll share it with everyone. About several weeks ago, I was told that a secret concert with Beenie Man was being planned for Mash Day at GCC. Of course I dismissed it as nonsense because it was already well known that T-Pain was scheduled to be performing there instead. With this new announcement though from the HJTV, I'm suddenly very very curious about this occurence considering that the artiste that had the 'secretly planned concert' is now the headlining replacement...hmmmmm, I wonder.
Ponder on that good folks, and we'll try to do some digging over here.

GT&T, Getting worse all the time
What's the matter with GTT? Are they paying too much money to HJTV that there is little left to make some proper advertisements? I know that GuyEnterprise wasn't very good with your ads (at least the video ones) but come on, you've gotten much worse since leaving them.
This latest offering appears to have come from some bottom house business, it looks beyond cheap. Who the heck are doing your ads now? Seems like you're giving Astro Arts some work to do because they're the only agency in this country I think that would make such bad ads. This wasn't just plain ole terrible, this was fancy terrible, this was terrible with whip cream on top and it's even worse when you realise that the Digicel ad they are responding to is one of the best, well produced ads, currently airing on television. Did their advertising people not see the digicel ad? Could they not have given the public something much much better than this big load of crap?
The people who created and approved that advertisement is living proof that many men..and woment, exist without brains or talent.
39th Republic Anniversary
Digicel's Mr. White on the Shonette Moore Show.
Shonette, Shonette, Shonette when are you going to remove that OMFG thing from your head? It looks horrendous for someone who is constantly on television, in a ‘starring’ role at that. It has been very clear to most ardent television viewers that Ms. Moore is a horrible hostess and it was hardly more apparent than on this edition with Mr. White. Why was she staring blankly at the camera and just nodding uncontrollably? She was hardly encouraging the man or even asking him purposeful questions…come on Shonette, not just because the show bears your name, it means that it’s all about you. I guess it’s true, you do have a large…ego!
And finally, this is what I’m really curious about. Why was she using her personal show which has usually been dedicated to entertainment to promote Digicel? Is this a new amendment to your contract with Mr. Graham at the strapped-for-cash Tagman?
Gotta give the Digicel people credit though, they certainly do know how to get the best benefits for their money, and they seem to know everywhere that they can seek out some advertising.
Catch the 'Link' at the Cultural Centre...
With a huge and exceptionally talented cast, it is the veterans like Ron Robinson, Margaret Lawrence and Henry Rodney who steal and carry most of the show with sterling performances. However the supporting cast was also very stellar and loaded with performers who have graced the stage over the years.
Much, like ‘Nothing to laugh about’ you’ll find this show utterly and hilariously funny so please, if you haven’t seen it, please do. In these hard times, we can all do with a little laughter…check out the link.

GT&T -- They're at it again
GT&T – The Best Reason to Switch to Digicel
Today, GT&T had a bit of a cell phone promo – Buy a Motorola V3i (RAZR) or a Motorola L7 for $10K and get free tickets to the upcoming T-Pain Show along with the After Party and Glow Party. Upon seeing this I thought wow, great phone at a great price plus a great incentive. One thing though … there had to be a catch. Ahh yes, GT&T and their beguiling ways. Here’s the catch – the fucking phones were refurbished pieces of shit that the blasted people at our beloved telephone company threw at the Guyanese public as if we were all has-beens. That's not all. Within 15 minutes of starting the promo it finished. The 3 or 4 phones that they had on sale were all gone. C'mon, if you're going to do something like this, then do it right. Get enough phones so at least 50 people can get one and not just 3 or 4. Because of the soldouts the friggers began selling Bird phones. What a shame and disgrace. Your slogan is Getting better all the time, but really, is that true? Really? Stop lying to yourselves and the Guyanese people.
I wonder what they'll do next?
Digicel’s new ad – Free Night Talk.
Ok, who’s seen this ad? If you have, then you’ll agree with me and say it’s nice. Yes, it is nice except for one thing – the appearance of Henry Rodney. What came to mind immediately upon seeing the ad was the thought of Beauty and the Beast. It’s like watching the dented ass of a gorilla prance around and sing. Don’t get me wrong – Henry Rodney’s a great comedian and probably a great guy, but unfortunately he wasn’t very pleasing to watch in the ad. Sherry-Ann Dyal on the other hand looked great but I doubt she would want to talk all night with Henry. I don’t know what Digicel was thinking, but choosing Mr Rodney to appear in their advert was a wrong choice.

T-Pain show is almost here for all those who slightly care
I’ll say it right now, Mr. Short, dark and obnoxious T-Pain sucks!! He cannot sing or perform…at least not by himself. I’m sure that by now you’d notice that on most of his successful recordings he has another ‘guest’ artiste performing with him. Care to guess why the one’s when he sings alone aren’t very popular?
Anyway what’s done is done; the circus is headed to town. What’s interesting to note however is that it appears as though the local clowns aren’t very interested in this circus because it seems as if the tickets aren’t selling as expected, and who can blame them for that? Personally my money can be better spent on cricket tickets.
How else can you explain all these recent promotions giving away free tickets? Cellink was giving away tickets with cheap phone purchases today and on Friday even cheaper phone purchases will get you tickets. You can argue that they’re giving back to the public but I’ll maintain that if the tickets were selling then they would not be giving them away.
And on a side note, how the hell is Ms. Marshall part of the headlining group? Nonsense I tell you, she can probably pass as the opening act as best (maybe not even that) but headliner…Hell NO!! all the more reason to stay away.
As always, these are my personal Opinion, if you don’t like it…ya know what? Bitch please…

Boring, Boring...Budget Debates are so boring
With the budget debates going on, one would expect to have some lively, entertaining, insightful presentations from our MP's but what has been shown leaves much much to be desired. It really does make for depressing viewing. Most of these MP's just stands up and reads a very monotonous speech obviously prepared by someone else, gone are the spontaneity of Parliamentary debates. There are some persons in that honorable house that should be removed in order to spear us their crushing banality.
Apart from these presentations being severely lacking, they are ridiculously long, gosh I wish the speaker of the house would turn down those requests for additional 15 minutes and in effect spear us all from more mediocrity. Anyone who saw Pauline Sukhai's presentation would know just what I'm talking about, she shouldn't feel bad though, a lot of other members of that house have no talent, it's not like they can do any better. Do you hear me Clement Rohee? I hope you do because if I ever wanted to hear from an ass, I'd just fart and get it over with.
Volda Lawrence darling I'm writing this part with you and your other colleagues in mind. The horrible presentations weren't limited to the Government bench alone, the opposition members were just as guilty. If I could have, I'd slap all of them senseless but I really don't have the seven seconds to spare. These people are now like KFC chicken - lacking in the essential spices, come on people, spice it up a little...pretty please...
Anybody remember this though: Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them. Personally I think the majority of them are born mediocre, I've seen very little to tell me otherwise.

Digicel Responds to $1 per minute
So here it is, digicel latest offering will be along these lines: Make two, three minute calls and get to talk all night FREE. Isn't that cool or what for all those who just love to talk on and on and on (myself included).
Some of you might have notice those strip ads running in the papers "All Night Long" or "Night Owls Wanted"...well now you have an explanation.
Competition is great...Keep it going guys, it's getting better and cheaper for all of us.
GPL and their lame ass new advertisement
Long long ago people started saying that human needs are limited to food, clothing and shelter but as time has progressed, shouldn't we also now consider our electricity and telephones as necessities as well?
Anyways as I said above, electricity is much needed for everyone and its too expensive for the majority of people. GPL is now telling the public to not steal electricity but to acquire it the proper (legal) way. Fine so far but what happens when someone tenders an application for this service but has to wait many many months to get their service. Is that person expected to live electricity free until the powers to be at GPL finally decide to look at the pending application? That doesn't make sense does it?
Moving on now, one of GPL complaints is that the cost of electricity is so high because people are stealing and the paying customers need to offset this cost, but would someone please tell GPL that most people steal electricity because the cost at which GPL supplies it is too high. I'm sure the idiots they have working there know that already though.
By no means, am I condoning the actions of those persons stealing electricity but GPL needs to get their house in order and provide a PROPER, RELIABLE service to the people of this country. Guyanese are already benefitting from having Digicel operating here it's sad, real sad that we cannot get a competitor for GPL, maybe then things might get better. I've given up wishing though, now I've resigned myself to a life of deep sadness. After nearly 43 years of independence, Guyana isn't going anywhere!
"Our Greatest Visionary": Why does NCN and the PPP lie so much?
Anyone wonders why the crowds at Babu John are getting smaller each year? I think people are slowly realizing what Cheddi Jagan really was. Don't get me wrong, I'm not out to desecreate the man's legacy, heck I was even infatuated with him when I was younger, would surely have voted for him if I could have back then but what can I say, I woke up and saw things for myself and I gotta say, with each passing year, more people seem to be waking up to what Cheddi really was...
Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Mikhail Gorbachev were all visionaries, even Hitler (though he had a fucked up vision) was a visionary. Cheddi Jagan, however was many things, least of all a die-hard communist but visionary he was not. Sorry to the remaining hundreds of his supporters.

Guyanese Singers Who Just Cannot Sing...
Sometimes for some people, vocal talent is not the most important thing when it comes to singing. With the right amount of promotion, backers and self-deprecation even the most lacklustre of performers are able to replace good ole-fashioned talent and ability. Just look at Rihanna or Kanye West, two individuals who can barely sing a note but make up for it with the right amount of all the other stuff.
In light of this, here are a few of the most horribly bad singers. Some of them have been around longer than most and you just wish they'd go away and visit Michael Jackson at Never Neverland and Never Never-return.
Temika Marshall: The problem with Temika is that she just can't sing, she suffers from an identity crisis it seems because she just can't seem to figure out who she really is, some days she appears to be mimicking Lady Saw whilst on other days ... well, I just can't expalin it. Blame H&J and the people at Cellink for forcing this nuisance onto the Guyanese people.
Vanilla: She is a prime example of children with names give by their parents that they cannot live up to. Vanilla?? C'mon ppl, does she look vanilla? I doubt she even tastes it. She forces herself on you like a toothache and no amount of dancing can hide the fact that she can't sing ... just keep on dancing Vanilla maybe one day you'll be able to join the girls down at Red Dragon.
Shelly G: Ow Lawd...what do I say about this one? Didn't she just have a kid (for Mr Dynamix?? Who the fuck would have a kid for that frigger? No, not because he's your promoter that means you have to let him make you his child carrier), I just wish she'd take a permanent maternity leave. Her voice is one of the most annoying squeaks I have ever had the displeasure of hearing.
Girlie Persaud: Ahhhhhhhhhh this one. It wasn't a winning combination when this one teamed up with Adrian Dutchin for that Carib beer ad. Squeaky, streaky, indulgent are the words that comes to mind when listening to her. Personally I'd rather have my balls bitten off by a pit bull than listen to this woman sing.
Charmaine Blackman: The Queen, Empress, Premier horrible singer of our time, she's not so great in the fashion department either, but that's another story. This woman just does not realize horrible she sounds, and what's worse is that she actually thinks she sounds good. I have to wonder, does she not have ears? If I could have I would force her to listen to a cd of her own music but I think someone might accuse me of Human Rights Violations. But seriously, if there was a hall of fame for bad singers, trust me she would be the first inductee.

Guyanese culture at its worst
Two things happened today as I was traveling in a bus, both of these actions came from the same wretch, but I know for a FACT that many others practice similar habits.
Firstly, this woman had a rather loud voice and maybe she’s probably deaf or incapable of speaking on a cell phone because anyone within 100 feet of her could have heard her…who needs phones?, anyways that was not her transgression, we’re getting there though. After having a conversation with someone on the phone she then thought it would be ok, even cool or nice, to carry on another conversation, this time with an acquaintance (later identified as her neighbour) who was sitting four rows in front of her. What the heck is wrong with some people? Why the hell would you want to have a conversation under such circumstances? Could it not have waited until you got home? I really don’t give a blasted rass about what is going on with Shirley/Jenifer or any of your other acquaintances or neighbors and my guess is, neither do the other passengers. Shut the hell up and wait till you reach home, then you can start taking ‘lil name’. What ever happened to courtesy rules and maxims? Remember ‘quiet speech is a mark of refinement’? Can’t we have a finishing school here because some people can really use the help, too many are lacking in social graces.
Anyways, as if that wasn’t enough, during the middle of her public conversation this loud mouth wretch recognized someone on the road and then did the unthinkable -- he stuck her head, slightly past me, out the window and yelled out the name of another acquaintance…seriously, what the heck? I ask you good people, what is wrong with some people? Why the hell do you need to just yell out a name from a moving vehicle and then just sit back contented as if you saved the world? Why people do that is beyond me, but I can tell you this, at that exact moment, I thought about that war on bad manners from a few years ago. I guess we know which side won. What about public whippings, can’t we re-introduce those because some people really need a good whipping!

Drag Queens dragged to court part 2
Whilst making their appearance in court in front of the acting chief magistrate, she had these kind words for the defendants:
" It’s a curse on the family. Go to church and give your lives to Christ," is what she told them while imploring the guys to change their attitude and fulfill their original purpose as men.
Apparently, the magistrate thought that she was still at church or maybe she just felt like delivering a sermon, either way, someone should have told her that the courtroom wasn't the place for it. What if these men were Hindu's or Muslims, would she be telling them to change their religions as well? Regardless of whatever, her opinions are just that, her opinions and she would do well to keep them to herself because I'm sure that many people don't really care for them much. Sure it's established that she has a sharp tongue but by no stretch of the imagination is a sharp tongue an indication of a keen mind.
I've grown up hearing from my parents that some people are wise and some are otherwise, well as of now, it's not hard to figure out which description best suit the learned (using that word loosely) magistrate. Can you imagine the audacity, the temerity and the gall of that woman to tell these people what is a curse on their family? maybe someone should tell her that in some places it's a curse on your family to be a lawyer also but no one was chasing her off to seek redemption for it here. And not content to leave it at that, she had to tell them also to fulfill their original duty as men. I'm sorry, but would that be the duty that the Honorable President was fulfilling by abusing his wife?
I must admit that I have never been a great lover of this magistrate. She strikes me as incompetent, biased, a puppet of sorts, the possessor of a tiny brain, big mouth and an opinion that nobody cares about, and I personally believe that no woman of our time has gone further with less mental equipment. It is indeed a very sad fact that nature not content with denying her the ability to think, has endowed her with the ability to write and pass judgment on others.
Drag Queens dragged to court
Scouring over the Guyana Chronicle, I stumbled across this headline:
"Seven confessed homosexuals fined for wearing female attire"
Not only were they charged for wearing female clothing, they were also charged for loitering. What a mockery!! Since when has the law dictated what a person is allowed to wear? I wonder if soon we're going to have to display the Nazi symbol prominently on our attire. Whatever happened to freedom of expression? aren't these persons just expressing themselves? This is pure madness!
As for the loitering charge, that's even more nonsense. Am I not allowed to just linger on the road now? are we under some sort of a curfew? seriously, how come no one told me that we were living under martial law? On any given day, there are countless persons who just walk the roads aimlessly (I happen to be one of them), persons can always be seen sitting at the roadsides, or hanging at street heads, why was this never a problem? or is just because they individuals in question are homosexuals? If that's the case, then this nonsense has to stop.
Guyanese need to realize that the world is changing, the world has changed and we need to change with it. We cannot sit by idly and then want to play catch up with everyone else, it's just not possible. We need to put this old fashion, traditionalist mentality behind us and remember that the time for that has long gone. The world is not what it used to be - A black man is leader of the free world for Christ sakes -, the days for these narrow minded, myopic ideals have passed, it'll do well for us to get rid of what still remains of them.
Whether or not some people want to accept it, they need to realize that homosexuals form an integral part of society. They teach our kids, protect the country, look after us when we're sick and so much more so we need to realize that the time for this discrimination has to stop and people need to understand and appreciate that homosexuals now make a valuable contribution to the everyday lives of many many many Guyanese.

UG student cheats then eats the evidence.
Today is Budget Day...What are YOU hoping for?
Dr. Ashni Singh, Minister of Finance, will present the Government budget for 2009. This time however, he is presenting a budget when our country is feeling the ripples of a global financial crisis that has engulfed the economies of the developed and developing countries. Budget 2009 therefore comes at a most crucial time.
Our economy hasn’t grown much in recent years so it will be very interesting to note if the Minister will be forecasting growth in the economy during these turbulent times, or what the projected inflation rate will be.
What will also be interesting to know is how much of our GDP will be government spending on what and where exactly the money will be coming from. Well actually the last part isn’t much of a mystery. VAT, PAYE for individuals, corporate taxes for corporations will account for most of the government’s income, but where will the rest be coming from?
However, the part that will concern all of us is if the 16% rate of VAT will be reduced, a suggestion that has been made several times before but has always been rebuffed and whether the income tax threshold will be increased.
Traditionally, our budgets have been full of numbers and words but always lacking in vision, optimism and hope, let us hope beyond hope that 2009 will be different.
New Judges to be appointed...it's about freaking time.
Mr. Jagdeo while making this announcement stated that he’s conscious about the vacancies in the High Court but noted that the function of filling these vacancies lies with the Judicial Service Commission.
Maybe I’m wrong but someone ought to remind Mr. President that HE has to appoint judges (not many things happen in this country without Mr. Jagdeo’s approval). The JSC cannot instruct a person to just go and take up office and work at the High Court, all they do is offer recommendations.
And while you’re at it, please also remind him that the JSC recommended these two persons to these positions since very early last year but he didn’t confirm them for whatever reason, maybe he lost their papers among those unsigned bills on his desk.
Anyways, all of that is in the past, we’re getting two new judges (one of whom is hyped to be a good judge, similar to Justice Barnes, the other lacking in criminal expertise).
I do wonder now though, if these judges will be confirmed judges or temporary ones who in the end might not get their benefits like a recently retired judge (reporters still include his name in lists of current High Court judges though).
And since I’m out wondering, I’m curious to know how long it will take to replace Ramson at the Appeal Court and just who that replacement might be. Justice Ramlall better be prepared for some more disappointment though, he might just be overlooked…again.

It's hard not to notice the grammys on TV tonight.
If I didn't want to watch the grammys, then I would have been without half of my viewing possibilities tonight. Sorry for those people who did not want to watch the show, your choices are limited (at least tonight).
It seems as though much thought does not go into what these stations are broadcasting...oh well.
What the hell is going on with the Guyanese cricket team?
Imagine this, The Windward Islands have 36 points, that's 36 more than Guyana. That is shameful! No offense to the Windward's, but they were always one of the teams Guyana could count on to do better than but now there's this.
Cricket has always been one of our pride, even when very little seems to be going well in our country, cricket often remained solid and gave us hope. When the WI team was struggling, our own national team was performing credibly...what went wrong?
Serious questions need to be asked of our cricket bosses and serious answers and solutions must be forthcoming.
Change is taking place in world cricket
The West Indies played a great game and won a good match but please people, let’s not get besides ourselves here, please don’t put too much into this solitary victory. Some people are already proclaiming that Caribbean Cricket have turned the corner, a rebirth of sorts but we should be cautious about these statements. While it really was a great victory, much much much is left to be done. The road back to the top is long and arduous but they’ve taken the first steps back.
Congrats Guys!

Speculation is over. Ramson it is...WTF?
Personally I think it's a sad day for those folks over at the AG chambers...good luck from now on, God knows you all are going to need it.
I would seriously like to know the rationale for this decision, the real rationale and not that diplomatic, iditoic crap about years of service and experience. I want to know why the fuck was he given another chance to fuck up this Ministry again. How the hell could he be a better candidate than Ralph Ramkarran? Only a fool would think that people would prefer working with Ramson than Ramkarran and only a bigger fool would think that Ramson is better suited for this position.
Hey, but what the ass do I know? What I do know is this though, with this appointment, the PPP has again missed an opportunity to put the country first. I don't know why I still continue to hope that things with them are going to change. This isn't America and sadly we don't have a Barack Obama that we can say 'yes we can'

Sarwan scores 100...let's hope it's the end of his drought.
Congratulations Ronnie. Most of us know that he has been struggling for form for a long time now, and in the process many of us have gotten so tired and frustrated with him, however let's hope that his knock in this match so far, signals a return to form.
At the crease with him when he reached his milestone is a man who would know a thing or two about form, Mr. Bat all day Chanderpaul. Hopefully these two Guyanese will be able to push the West Indies to a excellent first innings score.
Justice Ramson may return as AG - Kaieteur News
Since it's just speculation, I'll just say, it would be a horrible mistake to put Ramson back in the positon that he created such havoc in last time. And indeed if that decision is made, it'll just once again, show how intellectually bankrupt the PPP is - not like anyone needs reminding though.
Mr. Jagdeo reinstates FIRED Air Traffic Controllers.
Shortly after returning from his European trip, whilst addressing the media, Mr. Jagdeo informed the public that he asked the striking Air Traffic Controllers to return to work with the promise of further discussions concerning their grievances soon, and no surprise here, they did. Thank you Mr. President. Any chance of reversing the illegal dismissal of those two workers from Transport and Harbor?
Now what's to note here, is that the President did not come with a bullish attitude, trying to intimidate the strikers, instead, he reached out an olive branch and offered to talk. That's very surprising and noble of him.
Mr. Benn should at least take note and not let his arrogance and power get the better of him. Easier said than though for a man with such a large...Ego

Bharrat not here; Sam still speaks....
However, Nadia dear Nadia, I don't know if you know but The President is not in the country (seems as if he is hardly ever here these days) and even my 6yr old baby knows that when he isn't here, Sam is the acting President, so at least get that little fact right and address the man accordingly. Or do you even know that your boss is not in the country, maybe you once again didn't do any research.
It's hard to not know that Bharrat isn't here when practically every day we have to see him all over the television doing that now stale discussion. Gosh, does NCN & NTN know how to spoil a moment or what? talk about overkill. It was a great thing the first 3 or 4 times but seriously they have to know that by the 67th time that they would be annoying people with it.

Caricom needs to start cutting some of their expenditures...
I’m not a well educated individual, I don’t have a degree like many of the Caricom Staff but it would not take a genius to know that Caricom is in the habit of wasting money, and lots of it at that. So forgive me for not feeling sorry for them.
Should I feel sorry for them that they don’t have enough money to pay those super super super huge salaries to their cleaners and receptionists? Sorry I don’t.
Should I feel sorry for them that they have a multimillion dollar rent to pay each month when they probably could have been paying less for a mortgage instead? Sorry I don’t.
Should I feel sorry for them because they won’t be able to put up their guests in expensive hotels for long long periods? Sorry I don’t…I just don’t.
Mr. Secretary General, maybe you start helping Caricom by cutting some of your useless and excessive expenditures.
Seriously, what's the matter with Minister Benn? He needs some straightening out
Now I’m not saying that the strikers are doing the right thing, and strikes are never nice but sometimes they are very necessary and with this administration it seems as if measures of aggression are the only things that they respond to.
All fair minded, decent individuals should want an end to this dispute but Minister Benn with his war-like, intolerant, arrogant attitude isn’t helping the situation very much, in fact he is not helping at all.
He goes as far to say that the workers actions are illegal…My my my, how the tables have turned now. When this very Minister was firing people that he had no right firing he didn’t know that it was illegal then. Anyways this minister and many of his colleagues are like slippers, flip flops to be exact and they only use some words when it suits their purpose.
On a final note though, since this particular Minister likes to fire people so much, it’s sad, very sad that he can’t execute a justified termination and get rid of the credibility tarnished Priya Manickchand.
This is so not going to happen in Guyana...Sad...
I dare anyone to tell me where in Guyana something like this would happen. Nowhere in Guyana would this happen, everyone wants to reach the top and honesty and nobility is lost along the way. Practically, everyone cheats on their taxes, in one way or another. I cannot even begin to think that a person vying for a post of authority and responsibility in Guyana would let the fact that they haven’t paid adequate taxes get in their way.
For all that we rant and rave against America (a lot of it justified), and though their democracy is not always perfect, there still is a whole lot that can be learnt from them.
KFC -- What Happened?
Remember the days of good ol’ Kentucky Friend Chicken? A lot has changed since then – no more buttered ears of corn, fluffy buttermilk biscuits and finger lickin’ good chicken. It appears that the colonel really has kicked the bucket and in so doing spilt the secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices.
What we get now from KFC can be termed as the heavings of a franchise gone horrible wrong (locally that is) – undercooked, grayish looking chicken that’s drenched in so much oil it could suffice to be used as hair treatment for quite a few old Indian women of yore. Our country is faced with enough health hazards and risks as it is and you, KFC, are not out of blame for this.
When are you people going to pay that huge backlog of taxes you owe to the GRA? No wonder you are unable to provide air conditioned eating environments for the Guyanese public.
Bitches, please – it’s either you get your act together and offer the people better service/food or simply pack up and leave. We know that you are teetering on the edge of actually losing the franchise contract here in Guyana (or maybe you have already lost it, who knows?), so why not get your act together now?

Sorry to say Digicel but GT&T is the better value...(at the moment)
I’m sure red will bounce back though and I’m waiting patiently...
Reyaz is a bumbling, blabbering, arrogant fool
Has this man ever heard of the word 'tact'? how about 'tolerance'? I seriously doubt it, but ya know what, Reyaz teaches English so I suppose he does know those words, maybe he's just incapable of using them effectively.
This morning, whilst viewing his program (the debate with Mr. President at Davos got me hooked to the channel), a woman called to inform him of the situation at a post office a few days ago where some pensioners were quarreling for their monies. In a rather unsurprising, brusque tone Mr. Reyaz ordered the woman to stop bothering with matters that does not concern her. I know he and the President are good friends and I just couldn't help thinking that with that statement, he could very well fit in as Priya Manickchands' understudy, they do share the same ideologies. Someone should tell that arrogant jackasss that our problems concerns ALL of us. In the meantime, if nothing else, the words below illustrate the point.
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent; I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent; I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent; I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

"Leaf"...Another simple word explained...
For future reference, let me explain:
Leave (noun): The period of time during which you are absent from work or duty
Leaf (noun): One of the expanded, usually green organs borne by the stem of a plant.
It's so simple eh?
RBS Channel 13 needs an Extreme Makeover
Here we are, almost one decade into the 21st Century and yet RBS refuses to move with the times. Those water tanks and two ply toilet paper have been advertised tirelessly, in the same format since forever, I think they deserve a break don't you?. It’s like when I’m watching television and I see that screen, I just feel like poking my freaking eyes out.
Not to forget folks, but Channel 13 also possesses a cassette (or two) with great music. The songs are all hits, just as they were 30 years ago when they were first released. Sure I know they have some great programs during the week but the weekend is usually something else. The weekend programming is beyond being called the worst. Seriously, on a nice 2009 Saturday night, who the hell wants to look at death wish 1-4, back to school, delta force or some other crappy movie from the 70’s and 80’s that they have recorded on video tape?
And if that wasn’t enough, this channel is the biggest enabler of that great annoyance for a man, Mr. Dj. Stress himself. Whenever I’m unfortunate enough to see or hear him, I clap…hands over my eyes or ears.
Come on Jacob, you need to spice it up a little, add some flavor (hate to imagine what your food is like). I know some things get better as the years go on but sadly, channel 13 isn’t one of them.
